Women’s basketball swept by Falcons

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Hood College women's basketball team played its season series against Messiah University, falling 58-27 on the road.

Inside the Box Score
Serenity Ritchie (Martinsburg, W.V./Martinsburg) led the Blazers with nine points and five rebounds.

How it Happened
Hood struggled early to start the game, failing to register a basket in the first quarter as Messiah jumped out to a 23-0 advantage quickly.

The second quarter started out slowly for both squads, with neither team registering a shot until more than two minutes in. A three-pointer from Ritchie put the Blazers on the board, but the Falcons responded with two more baskets of their own. Ritchie continued to control the offense by scoring a pair of baskets, but those would be the only scores Hood could manage as it headed into halftime down 31-7.

Amya Pulley (Reistertown, Md./Western Tech) and Ritchie got the Blazers off to a much better start coming out into the third quarter with an 8-2 run in the first three minutes. Messiah was able to corral Hood as the quarter continued and prevent itself from being outscored by the Blazers though, forcing the visiting team's comeback to be even more difficult in the final 10 minutes.

A three-pointer on the Falcons' first possession of the fourth showed they would not be slowing down anytime soon, and true to form continued to pressure Hood. A Sami Betley (Bel Air, Md./Mercy) layup was answered by five points in 45 seconds by Messiah, and the Blazers would not be able to match the Falcons' offense the rest of the way, ultimately falling 58-21.

For the Opponent
Hope Cook and EmmyFaith Wood both scored 12 points, with the latter credited with six assists.

Analysis
The Falcons shot 38 percent overall and 32 percent from three-point range, while the Blazers hit 28 percent from the floor, and 22 percent from beyond the arc.

Messiah outrebounded Hood 37-30.

The Falcons' bench outscored the Blazers' 21-2.
