FREDERICK, Md. – The baseball team hosted Regent University over spring break and fell 11-1 and 5-4 with an exciting finish in game two on Tuesday afternoon at FCC.
On the Mound
Tyler Knill (Frederick/Frederick) started game two and allowed two earned runs in four innings of work.
Aaron Heller (Philadelphia, Pa./Jack Barrack Hebrew Acad.) allowed one run in two innings of work in game one.
Inside the Batter's Box
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) went 4-for-4 in game two, driving in all four runs.
Kamari Chisolm (Gainesville, Va./Bishop O'Connell) went 2-for-3 in game two.
Jonathan Tyndall (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) scored the only run for Hood in game one.
From the Bullpen
Mason Potter (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) pitched three scoreless in game two.
How it Happened – Regent 5, Hood 4
After the no-hit bid in game one, the Blazers were quick at their next chance to bat to break the hitless day. Chisolm walked and stole second and with one out the first hit of the day came off the bat of Haines with a double to score Chisolm.
Regent would reclaim their one-run lead in the second just to lose it in the third with
Jonathan Tyndall (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) manufacturing his away around the bases before being driven in by Haines.
The teams would go to extra innings and the Royals would have their first crack at breaking the tie. A leadoff double would already put the winning run in scoring position, but shortly after a pickoff by Sawyers would get the runner traveling to third and clear the bases. However, Regent would reach base in their next four at bats and notch three runs.
Even with how the past two days had gone, Hood rallied down by a few.
Blaine Smith (Hume, Va./Fauquier) worked a pinch hit walk followed by singles by Chisolm and Tyndall to load the bases for Haines. The junior would cash in two more with a base hit that floated over the infield to make the score 5-4.
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) would pinch hit as the last batter of the game and work a 10-pitch at bat but eventually be retired via flyout to end the threat.
