FREDERICK, Md. – The Hood College baseball team took a break from conference play to face yet another powerhouse in Elizabethtown receiving votes in the Top 25 and after battling in the first five innings, the Blue Jays put a seven-run inning up in the sixth to sail into a 10-2 win over Hood on the road Wednesday afternoon.
On the Mound
Declan Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) gave three solid innings of one-run ball only allowing one hit.
Inside the Batter's Box
Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) scored and drove in a run to represent both the Blazer runs in the game.
Rhett Robbins (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) racked up three hits on the afternoon.
Michael Janicki (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) and
Colin Moeller (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) both notched hits.
How it Happened
After Etown opened the scoring with an run in the second, Hood responded in the third to even the game. Seely reached via throwing error and eventually came home on an error from the first baseman to knot the score at 1–1.
The Blue Jays briefly regained the lead in the fourth, but Hood answered once again in the fifth. Moeller sparked the inning with a single up the middle and following a Robbins double, Seely produced a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Moeller home and tying the game at 2–2.
The turning point came in the bottom of the sixth, when Elizabethtown pushed across seven runs, taking advantage of walks and a key two-run double to open up the game.
Hood went to the bullpen for four relievers over the final five innings, with
Tyler Knill (Frederick/Frederick) and
Conner Decker (York, Pa./Red Lion) combining to limit damage late as the Blazers continued to compete through the ninth inning.

The squad will reenter conference play with a three-game series with Messiah starting on Friday, March 25 with first pitch at 3:30 in Grantham, Pennsylvania and then will continue the series in Frederick on Saturday, March 29 at Frederick Community College with that doubleheader starting at noon.
