FREDERICK, Md. – After an arms battle went south in game one, the baseball team would drop the following end of the doubleheader against another strong pitching outing from Messiah as 6-0 and 10-2 would be the scores in the losses at FCC on Saturday afternoon.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) went six innings in game one and allowed five earned runs but sat down six in the outing.
Aaron Heller (Philadelphia, Pa./Jack Barrack Hebrew Acad.) started game two going 2.1 innings allowing two earned runs.
Mason Sawyers (Culpeper, Va./Culpeper County) took the bulk of the relief with four innings pitched only allowing one run on two hits.
Inside the Batter's Box
Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) had two hits in game two.
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) and
Rhett Robbins (Frederica, Del./Lake Forest) both doubled in game two.
How it Happened – Messiah 6, Hood 0
Game one of the series proved to be a battle between "Friday" starters with Albright of Hood and Foltz of Messiah.
The first two innings remained clean for both sides before the first hit of the game would be off the bat of a Falcon in the top of the third with a hit by a pitch soon to be followed. In a two-on, no-out situation. Albright after throwing two straight balls out of the zone on the next batter, created three putouts to steer clear of trouble.
Hood's turn to bat in the bottom of the third would create hard hit baseballs like a Tyndall line drive to the pitcher that was caught and a fly ball by
Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) that went 370 but fell into the glove of the centerfielder.
Albright was using every grunt to add velocity to put down Falcon batters, but really benefited from his curveball located up-and-in on batters to create weak contact. He would escape another two-on situation in the fourth.
This game unfolded in the sixth with two outs and yet again two men on base. A hooking line drive to left would leave the ballpark just inside the foul pole to give Messiah a 3-0 lead and the edge in the duel. The visitors would tag on three more runs with another homer to cap off to win the battle and leave perfect in the win over the Blue & Grey.
How it Happened – Messiah 10, Hood 2
The Blazers finally earned their way to first when
Ty Broughton (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) in the second inning put a ground ball in the hole between shortstop and third base and beat the throw. A double play would soon end the inning.
Messiah scored three times in the second inning and added two more in the third to open a 5–0 lead.
Hood got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brown doubled to right-center and later scored on an RBI groundout by
Jonathan Tyndall (Felton, Del./Lake Forest), putting the Blazers on the scoreboard. Hood added another run in the seventh when Broughton came home on a wild pitch after reaching base with a single.
