FREDERICK, Md. – The squad celebrated "Blazer Day" at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium as early free passes sticked up and foe Salisbury struck big early and took down the Blazers 11–1, on Tuesday afternoon.
On the Mound
Declan Sullivan (Huntington, N.Y./St. Anthony's) got the start allowing four earned runs off of three hits.
Mason Salisbury (Colora, Md./Perryville) got two K's in his 1.2 innings of relief.
Liam Moriarty (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) came away with two strikeouts in his one inning of work without allowing a walk.
Inside the Batter's Box
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) floated a double in the gap for one of the Blazer's two hits on the day.
Aedan Messier (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) made his way around the bases representing the only Hood run.
How it Happened
The Sea Gulls opened the game with three runs in the top of the first, capitalizing on a hit-by-pitch, two stolen bases, and a pair of Hood defensive miscues to take an early advantage. The Gulls added three more runs in the second, with free opportunities at the plate and aggressive base running to move ahead 6–0 before the Blazers came to bat.
Hood's bullpen was able to slow the momentum in the middle innings. Salisbury worked 1.2 scoreless frames out of the bullpen, and then Musselman allowed just one run over two innings of relief.
Liam Moriarty (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) followed with a clean sixth inning to keep the deficit manageable.
Offensively, the Blazers were limited early by Salisbury starter Tyler Villa, who did not allow a hit through the first five innings. Hood's best scoring threat came in the fourth, when
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) doubled to right-center and
Blaine Smith (Hume, Va./Fauquier) followed with a single, but the rally was cut short by a pair of strikeouts.
Hood broke the shutout the bottom of the sixth as Messier reached on an error and advanced to third before scoring on a wild pitch, putting the Blazers on the board and cutting the deficit to 7–1.
Salisbury responded with two runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to extend its lead.
