FREDERICK, Md. – The baseball team used a strong start from
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) before
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) hit a three-run homer to put the Blazers in front in the eighth inning and some with help from trusty arms from the bullpen completed the 4-3 comeback win over Alvernia on Friday afternoon at FCC.
On the Mound
Skylar Albright (Hendersonville, N.C./Hendersonville) pitches six innings of two-run ball allowing four hits and sitting down five.
Mason Potter (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) picked up strong outing with 2.1 innings of one-run baseball to hold off the competition.
Declan Musselman (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) slammed the door getting the final two outs in a high-pressure situation.
In the Batter's Box
AJ Haines (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) finishes with that homer to boast and three RBIs.
Sean Seely (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) stays hot with a hit and a walk on the afternoon.
How it Happened
Alvernia jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the top of the first with a pair of walks that totaled 20 pitches and later were cashed in by a single to left.
Hood's starter Albright went back to work and kept the Golden Wolves in check over the next five innings. Even with a leadoff double in the third and two runners on in the sixth, he evaded trouble one grunt at a time to give the bats a chance.
The Blazers got on board the fifth inning with a leadoff walk by
Seely who didn't remain comfortable there as an
Amrit Brown (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) double in the gap forced the junior to wheel around the bases and score all the way from first base.
Potter then relieved the starter in the following inning and forced a double play to end the seventh and a hard-earned ground ball to end the eighth.
Quade Gannon (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) worked a 2-2 count to lead off the bottom half of the eighth before taking a pitch off the body to reach first base.
Kamari Chisolm (Gainesville, Va./Bishop O'Connell) then singled, which setup
Haines' delivery of the big fly just out of the reach of the left fielder and over the fence, to give Hood its first lead of the afternoon at 4–2 and energized the home dugout.
Alvernia notched across a run in the ninth, but
Declan Musselman (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) closed the door to seal the victory and earn the save.

Hood improves to 11-14, 6-4 in conference to climb to third place.
