Field Hockey takes flight and grounds Eagles 4-0

FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College field hockey team came up with a 4-0 victory against the visiting Eagles of Juniata University on Wednesday evening.

Inside the Box Score
Kymara Beijer (Zandvoort, Nl./Kennemer Lyceum) posted her first ever goal as a Blazer.

Madeline Moreno (Mansfield, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) found the back of the net after an insert and assist by Sydney Fleming (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland)

Anna Sheldon (Odenton, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Emma Niese (Elkridge, Md./The Catholic High School of Baltimore) both scored their first ever collegiate goals in the match.

Allison Wallin (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) had two saves on the day.

How It Happened
In the beginning of the game both teams had genuine shot attempts on each of the opposing goalies. Although the entire first half was almost a complete stalemate until the final four minutes of the second quarter where Hood's offense dissected the Eagles corner defense.

In the 27th minute of the match, the Blazers had two critical shots on goal from Moreno and Becca Medina (Spotsylvania, Va./Fredericksburg Christian) that were saved by Kara Stringfellow. The Blazers were then granted another penalty corner and this time it would be Beijer who managed to clean up a rebound off the turf and sneak one past the Eagles' keeper making it 1-0 heading into halftime.

Opening the third quarter of play, Moreno was able to cash in a goal after a pristine insert by Flemming that led to a tic-tac-toe goal pushing Hood up 2-0 just 10 minutes into the half.

Now up 2-0 in the final quarter of play, the Blazers opened up the flood gates and decided to let its younger players join in on the fun. Just six and a half minutes into the quarter, the first-year Sheldon cleaned up a saved shot by Ellie Dainton (Mays Landing, NJ./Saint Joseph Academy) and netted her first collegiate goal. The Blazers did not take their foot off the gas so soon though. Just a minute later, the first-year Niese checked into the game, and after her few first touches she found the back of the net to close out the games scoring at 4-0.

For The Opponent
Kara Stringfellow finished the game with 10 saves.
