Men's Soccer suffers first loss of the season against Oneonta

ONEONTA, NY. – The Hood College Men's Soccer team was ambushed by the Oneonta offense in the first half, and even though the Blazers flipped the script in the second half, failure to capitalize resulted in a 3-1 loss against the Red Dragons on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Inside the Box Score

Daurin Rivera (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) scores his first collegiate goal in the final minutes via penalty kick as the Blazer's sole goal.

Jonathan Fuentes (Hagerstown, Md./Oakdale) put up three shots, one on goal on the afternoon.

Adam Labows (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) made four saves on the afternoon.

How it Happened

About fifteen into the match, the defense swarmed one side of the field which gave Bamba Yacouba to take his shot at the open field just outside the box to strike a left-footed goal to break the tie.

Looking to tightening up defense, the Blazers were keeping the opposition at bay momentarily but found some misfortune along the way. Four minutes later, a Red Dragon attacker in double coverage took a shot that was blocked at first but got his own second-timer and sent a rocket past Labows to double the deficit.

The final Oneonta goal came from a burst of energy from an attacker outside less than a few minutes into the second half, beat the final defender outside the box and the cross found a sneaky Red Dragon all by himself for the tap in on the opposite side.

With one last attempt in the final minute, the Blazers sent a free kick just to the front of the goal that hit the hand of a defender rewarding the challenger in Rivera with a penalty kick.

Rivera, with no hesitation, sent a skipping shot just inside the crossbar to break the shutout just moments before the final whistle.

For the Opponent

Imari Harris scored a pair of goals for Oneonta.

Analysis

The Red Dragons committed 15 fouls compared to the Blazers' six.
Oneota led in shots and corners in the first half while scoring twice, Blazers led in both categories in the second half but couldn't capitalize.
