ANNVILLE, Pa.--The Hood College women's basketball team dropped
a 53-39 decision to host Lebanon Valley College Saturday in the
opening round of the Lebanon Valley College Rinso Marquette
Tournament. The Blazers will take on either Shenandoah or
Pitt-Greensburg in the consolation game of the tournament at 1 p.m.
Sunday.
The Blazers led for most of the first half and took a narrow
22-21 advantage into halftime. Hood's biggest lead of the stanza
was seven points at the 7:10 mark when Sara Wastler buried one of
her four three-pointers to give the Blazers a 20-13 lead. But
Valley battled back and closed to within one in the closing moments
of the first half on a layup in transition by Donna Geiger.
The Flying Dutchwomen erupted out of the gates in the second
half and used a 14-4 run to take a 35-26 lead at the 10:52 mark.
The Blazers got another three-pointer from Wastler and a pair of
free throws from freshman Natasha Taylor to close to within five
(37-32) but LVC reeled off the next 12 straight points to go up
49-32 with 4:46 to go and went on to win by 14.
Wastler led the Blazer offense with 12 points, all on
three-pointers. Freshman Sara Hartlaub tallied 10 points and four
rebounds while Jennifer Willison pulled down a team-high seven
boards and chipped inn a pair of field goals in their collegiate
debuts.
