ANNVILLE, Pa.--Freshman Jennifer Willison recorded her first
collegiate "double double" with game-highs of 17 points and 16
rebounds but it was not enough as the Hood College women's
basketball team dropped a 60-47 decision to Pitt-Greensburg Sunday
afternoon in the consolation game of the Lebanon Valley Rinso
Marquette Tournament.
The Blazers fall to 0-2 on the season while the Bobcats even
their record at 1-1.
UPG got off to a fast start and held the advantage for most of
the first half. Trailing 23-13 with just over three minutes to
play, the Blazers mounted an impressive comeback, scoring 10
unanswered points to tie the score at 23-23 with just under a
minute to play. Willison contributed six points in the spurt,
including a pair of fast break layups. The Bobcats held a slim
24-23 edge at the break thanks to a free throw by Nicole Reiser.
The two squads traded buckets in the opening minutes of the
second half. Hood took a 41-40 lead on a three-pointer by Sara
Wastler at the 8:09 mark, but the Bobcats exploded over the next
6:14 outscoring the Blazers 19-1 to assume a 59-42 lead with 1:55
remaining and Hood never recovered.
Wastler, who earned all-tournament plaudits, finished with 15
points, seven rebounds and three assists and Dana Shook contributed
six points and six boards in the losing cause.
The Blazers return to action Tuesday, Nov. 28 when they host
Salisbury University in their home opener at 6 p.m. at Gambrill
Gymnasium.
