Women's Lacrosse Falls to Villa Julie

STEVENSON, Md.--The Hood women's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the young season with a 21-3 setback to host Villa Julie Friday.

The Mustangs (2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into the game and held their slight advantage for the next eight minutes before scoring six goals in a six-minute stretch.

The Blazers (1-1) closed to within 8-2 on tallies by freshman Liz Rakowski--off a feed from junior Laurie Burrier--and junior Laura Butman, but Villa Julie reeled off the final five goals of the half to take a 13-2 lead at the break.

The Mustangs continued their offensive explosion in the second half, scoring six straight goals, before Hood snapped the streak on an unassisted tally by Rakowksi.

Villa Julie added two more goals in the final four minutes to close out the scoring.

Cat Connelly led the Mustangs with six goals and three assists, while Julie Olsen added two goals and two assists.

Sophomore Lauren Lieb made 12 saves for Hood.

The Blazers return to action Tue., March 21 when they host Centenary (N.J.) College at 4 p.m.
