STEVENSON, Md.--The Hood women's lacrosse team suffered its
first loss of the young season with a 21-3 setback to host Villa
Julie Friday.
The Mustangs (2-2) jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 23 seconds into
the game and held their slight advantage for the next eight minutes
before scoring six goals in a six-minute stretch.
The Blazers (1-1) closed to within 8-2 on tallies by freshman
Liz Rakowski--off a feed from junior Laurie Burrier--and junior
Laura Butman, but Villa Julie reeled off the final five goals of
the half to take a 13-2 lead at the break.
The Mustangs continued their offensive explosion in the second
half, scoring six straight goals, before Hood snapped the streak on
an unassisted tally by Rakowksi.
Villa Julie added two more goals in the final four minutes to
close out the scoring.
Cat Connelly led the Mustangs with six goals and three assists,
while Julie Olsen added two goals and two assists.
Sophomore Lauren Lieb made 12 saves for Hood.
The Blazers return to action Tue., March 21 when they host
Centenary (N.J.) College at 4 p.m.
