FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team improved to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference with a 7-2 win over visiting Chatham College Sunday afternoon.

Hood began the day by winning two of the three doubles matches. Freshmen Christine Ocampos-Barry and Larisa Buriak turned in an 8-1 victory over Sarah Betz and Enming Qing at No. 2, and sophomores Stephanie Garrett and Stephanie Cowen posted an 8-0 shutout of Danielle Gaines and Mary Catherine Hughes at No. 3.

Chatham's Beth Wolensky and Erin Spangler were 8-2 winners against Hood sophomores Laura Wanner and Christina Rosa at the top doubles flight.

Hood then pulled away with dominating performances in singles play, winning five of the six flights in straight sets.

Garrett had little trouble in downing Spangler 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, while Buriak was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Qing at No. 3. Wanner blanked Betz 6-0, 6-0 at the fourth spot, Rosa defeated Jackson 6-3, 6-0 at the fifth flight and Cowen was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Gaines at the sixth position.

Wolensky earned Chatham's other point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Ocampos-Barry at No. 1 singles.

The Blazers close out their regular season Wednesday when they host Cheyney University at 3:30 p.m.
