DANVILLE, Va.--Averett raced out to a 12-0 halftime lead and
never looked back in a 17-2 win over visiting Hood Sunday
afternoon.
Vanessa Jordan scored four of her five goals in the first half,
while Darcie Jones tallied three of her five goals in the opening
30 minutes as the Cougars (9-6) opened the commanding lead at the
break.
Hood (3-7), which dropped its fifth in a row, trailed 13-0
before senior Laura Pitts found the net with 20 minutes left in the
game. Pitts added her second goal of the day with just over eight
minutes remaining.
Pitts and junior Laurie Burrier collected three ground balls
each, while senior Annie Lavery had three draw controls.
Sophomore Lauren Lieb made 12 saves for the Blazers, who were
outshot 33-6.
Hood returns to action Wednesday when it visits Shenandoah at 4
p.m.
