Women's Lacrosse Falls to Averett

DANVILLE, Va.--Averett raced out to a 12-0 halftime lead and never looked back in a 17-2 win over visiting Hood Sunday afternoon.

Vanessa Jordan scored four of her five goals in the first half, while Darcie Jones tallied three of her five goals in the opening 30 minutes as the Cougars (9-6) opened the commanding lead at the break.

Hood (3-7), which dropped its fifth in a row, trailed 13-0 before senior Laura Pitts found the net with 20 minutes left in the game. Pitts added her second goal of the day with just over eight minutes remaining.

Pitts and junior Laurie Burrier collected three ground balls each, while senior Annie Lavery had three draw controls.

Sophomore Lauren Lieb made 12 saves for the Blazers, who were outshot 33-6.

Hood returns to action Wednesday when it visits Shenandoah at 4 p.m.
