FREDERICK, Md.--The No. 20 University of Mary Washington Eagles
defeated the Hood College women's basketball team, 91-34, in a
non-conference game Saturday afternoon at Gov. Thomas Johnson High
School.
The Blazers fall to 2-14 overall while the Eagles won their 12th
straight game and improve to 16-2.
The Eagles raced out to a 25-4 lead midway through the first
half. UMW led by as many as 28 in the stanza and held a 44-19
advantage at halftime. Mary Washington's balanced scoring attack
kept the Blazers at bay as 11 Eagles got into the scoring column.
Freshman Jennifer Willison led the Blazers with 14 points,
including a perfect 8-of-8 at the foul line, to go along with five
rebounds and a pair of steals. Senior Dana Shook finished with
seven points, while sophomore Sara Wastler chipped in six points
and three boards. Freshman Sara Hartlaub tallied five points and
five rebounds, and classmate Jessica Nease netted two points and an
assist.
Sarah Flanagan notched a game-high 15 points including 8-of-8
from the foul line to lead the Eagles.
The Blazers return to action Monday at Atlantic Women's Colleges
Conference rival Wilson College at 7 p.m.
