COLUMBIA, Md.--The Hood College men's and women's outdoor track
and field teams competed at the First Annual Dragon Invitational
hosted by Howard Community College Saturday.
The men's squad finished fourth out of nine teams while the Blazer
women placed third out of seven teams.
Winners for the Blazers included Faraz Shoai and Danielle Sgro who
each captured the 5000 meter run.
The Blazers rewrote eight school records in the meet. Matt Haynes
tossed the javelin 135 feet, while Corey DeMaster earned a pair of
Capital Athletic Conference qualifying standards in the long jump
(18' 5 1/4") and the triple jump (39' 1 3/4"). William Andrews
posted a CAC qualifying time of his own in the steeplechase in
10:46.49 and the men's 4x100 relay squad of Ryan Jenkins, Tomilayo
Komolafe, Mike Cahill and Faizal Johnson broke the tape in 46.28
seconds, a new school record.
On the women's side, Erica Hamor etched her name into the record
books in a pair of throwing events. She tossed the javelin 64 feet
and registered a mark of 51' 7 1/2" in the hammer throw.
Additionally, Anika Watley eclipsed the school record distance in
the long jump with a leap of 13' 6 1/2".
Hood returns to action next weekend at the Battleground Relays
hosted by the University of Mary Washington Friday and Saturday in
Fredericksburg, Va.
