FREDERICK, Md.--Six different players scored for the Hood
College women's lacrosse team but the Blazers came up just short to
the visiting Ferrum College Panthers, falling 10-8 in
non-conference action at Thomas Athletic Field.
Hood slips to 2-4 while the Panthers move to 5-7.
Junior Laurie Burrier got the Blazers on the board in the first
four minutes of the game when she netted her first of two
first-half scores. But the Panthers scored three unanswered goals
in a span of three minutes to take a 3-1 lead.
The Blazers responded with a three-goal spurt of their own as
Liz Rakowski, Burrier and Rachel Loss all found the back of the net
to put Hood back on top, 4-3, with just over four minutes left in
the half.
But Hood's lead was short-lived as Sarah Kaye scored just 17
seconds later to tie the game at 4-4. Then Katie Denney and
Stephanie Perih scored in the final 2:15 and the Panthers took a
6-4 halftime lead.
Hood matched Ferrum's scoring output in the second half but was
unable to net the go-ahead goal.
Burrier finished with a pair of goals and one assist while
Rakowski also registered two goals. Brandy Noel, Christa Lundskow,
Rachel Loss and Lauren Perzan all added single tallies.
Perih recorded a team-high four goals for the victors.
The Blazers return to action Saturday against Georgian Court
University at 10 a.m.
