FREDERICK, Md.--The York College women's basketball team (14-4,
6-3 CAC) defeated Hood College (3-14, 1-8 CAC) 77-44 Saturday in a
Capital Athletic Conference contest at Gov. Thomas Johnson High
School.
Hood used a 12-2 run early in the first half to assume a 12-6
lead at the 12:33 mark. Sophomore Jen Willison scored six of Hood's
12 points on layups in the spurt. But from there the Spartans
outscored the Blazers 25-6 over the next 11 minutes and led 34-21
at the break. York forced 20 Hood turnovers in the first stanza.
The Blazers were unable to trim the deficit below double figures
in the second half, connecting on just six field goals in the final
20 minutes.
Willison registered a team-high 16 points and pulled down eight
rebounds while Whitney Schultheis and Allyson Lethbridge netted
nine points apiece. Sara Wastler finished with six points, five
rebounds and five assists.
York's Kristen Daly led all scorers with 21 points on 9-10
shooting.
The Blazers return to action Wednesday at the University of Mary
Washington for a 6 p.m. CAC tilt.
