FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (1-4)
broke five school records en route to its first victory of the
season, an 88-31 nonconference win over Wilson College (1-3),
Tuesday evening at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.
Junior Jen Willison broke Hood's single-game scoring record with
39 points on 17-of-30 shooting, eclipsing the previous record of 35
held by Rita Willis from the 2003-04 season (vs. Mary Baldwin, Feb.
28, 2004). Willison also broke single game records for field goals
made and attempted.
In addition, senior Sara Wastler registered a rare triple-double
with 14 points, 12 rebounds and a school-record 13 assists.
Wastler's unselfish performance broke Willis' record of 12 asssists
against Chatham College from the 2004-05 campaign. Wastler also
became the first Hood women's basketball player to register a
triple-double since Melissa Kelly accomplished the feat against
Christendom College Feb. 26, 1999 (19 points, 10 rebounds, 11
assists).
As a team, the Blazers tied the single-game assist record with
32, matching the effort of the 2000-01 squad against Trinity
University (D.C.).
Allyson Lethbridge contributed a season-high 20 points to go
along with nine rebounds, seven steals and seven assists, all
career-highs.
Jess Head grabbed a season-high four rebounds, Bridgette Ringley
dished out a season-best seven assists and Brianna Raithel scored a
season-high seven points in the decisive triumph.
The Blazers recorded their 15th straight victory over their
former rivals from the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference dating
back to the 2001-02 season and are now 20-8 all-time against the
Phoenix.
Hood next hosts Trinity University (D.C.) Monday at Gambrill
Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
