FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (2-5,
0-1 CAC) suffered a 77-27 defeat at the hands of the York College
(Pa.) Spartans (6-1, 1-0 CAC) Wednesday in the Capital Athletic
Conference opener for both schools at Frederick Community College.
The Spartans limited the Blazers to just three field goals in
the first half and built a 42-12 advantage at the break.
Brianna Raithel paced the Blazers with three triples off the
bench for a team-high nine points. Jen Willison finished with six
points and eight boards while Jessica Head contributed four points
and a career-high nine rebounds.
The Spartans outrebounded the Blazers 62-35 and shot 41 percent
from the field. April Sparkman led all scorers with 20 points and
pulled down nine rebounds.
Hood returns to action Friday at No. 19 Mary Washington in a CAC
contest at 6 p.m.
