FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Jessica Devine scored the golden goal
for the Hood College women's soccer team (3-4, 2-2 CAC) with 27
seconds left in the second overtime session to lift the Blazers to
a dramatic 1-0 double overtime win over the visiting Wesley College
Wolverines (3-3, 1-3 CAC) Saturday in a Capital Athletic Conference
game at Thomas Athletic Field.
Hood registered its first-ever victory over the Wolverines after
suffering defeats in four previous meetings dating back to the 1995
season. In fact, Hood had not scored a goal against Wesley since
that matchup in 1995 when it lost 2-1. But Devine's second career
tally, which came off a cross from Katherine Rendon, sent the
Blazer bench into a frenzy and gave Hood its third win in its last
four contests.
Rachelle Buhrman had a solid game in the net, turning away nine
Wolverine shot attempts, including a pair in the extra sessions.
Hood, now in sixth place in the CAC standings, next hosts former
Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference rival Wilson College Thursday
at 4 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
