FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's soccer team (7-5-1, 2-4
CAC) suffered its third straight defeat Wednesday, dropping a 4-1
Capital Athletic Conference decision to the visiting Stevenson
University Mustangs (9-3-1, 4-1 CAC) at Thomas Athletic Field.
The Mustangs benefited from a defensive miscue by the Blazers
just 2:02 into the contest when a Hood defender unintentionally
deflected the ball into the net. Stevenson notched two more scores
before halftime. On one of its four corner kick chances in the 31st
minute, Katie Decker launched a pass into the box for Melinda Kane
who headed the ball past starting keeper Rachelle Buhrman for her
sixth goal of the season. Then in the 39th minute, Stevenson's
leading scorer, Stephanie Eyler, pocketed her 10th goal of the fall
and the Mustangs took the 3-0 lead into the break.
Stevenson struck quickly again in the second half when Kane
notched her second tally of the game in the first minute of the
stanza. Junior Cara Jordan got the Blazers on the board in the 58th
minute for her team-leading eighth goal of the season. Her score
was the first surrendered by the Mustangs in more than 360 minutes
dating back to Sept. 26.
Buhrman made four saves in 57:56 and sophomore Kirsten Cacciola
played the final 32:04 in the net and turned aside the only shot
she faced.
Stevenson outshot Hood 18-5 and defeated the Blazers for the
first time since joining the CAC in 2007.
Hood next travels to Salisbury University Saturday for a 1 p.m.
CAC tilt.
