FREDERICK, Md.--Junior guard Allyson Lethbridge led all scorers
with 19 points but it was not enough as the Hood College women's
basketball team (0-1) fell to the visiting Lebanon Valley College
Dutchmen (1-0), 80-50, Sunday in the season opener for both
programs at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick.
After a layup by freshman Stacey Jones cut the LVC lead in half
(8-4), the Dutchmen reeled off the next eight points to assume a
16-4 edge 7:19 into the first half. Lebanon Valley went on to shoot
50 percent from the field in the first half and assumed a 37-19
lead at the break.
Eight different Dutchmen contributed to the scoring in the first
20 minutes. Hood, however, had its chances, as the Blazers
outrebounded LVC, 21-16.
Although the Blazers got no closer than 15 in the second half,
Hood's shooting percentage increased and the Blazers held on to the
ball better in the final 20 minutes. Lethbridge and freshman Dyanna
Prater also combined for five three-pointers in the second stanza.
Senior Jen Willison hit 3-of-8 from the floor for eight points
to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds.
In her Hood debut, Prater tallied 10 points in addition to
dishing four assists, hauling in four rebounds and picking off a
pair of steals. Jones finished with six points and four boards in
her first collegiate game.
Junior Kameran Evans connected on 1-of-6 from the field and
grabbed three offensive rebounds in her first game for the blue and
grey while freshman Jessica Talley chipped in two points, two
assists, one rebound and one block.
Three Dutchmen reached double figures as LVC improved to 5-0
all-time against Hood. Junior Suzie Noyes led the way with 16
points while classmate Eryn Schultz and freshman Sarah Colton
totaled 13 points apiece.
The Blazers return to action Friday hosting Averett University
at 6 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader at the Odom Fitness
Center at Fort Detrick.
