FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (2-5)
earned its first home victory of the season by knocking off the
visiting Philadelphia Biblical University Crimson Eagles (2-6),
51-38, Friday evening at the Odom Fitness Center at Ft. Detrick.
The Blazers scored the first 13 points of the game and limited
the Crimson Eagles to a single field goal in the first half. A
jumper by Stacey Jones at the 3:37 mark gave the Blazers their
largest lead of the game, 24-5, and Hood took a 26-10 lead into the
break.
PBU used sharp perimeter shooting to claw back into it. After
going 0-for-6 from the field in the first half, PBU's leading
scorer Dani Norton buried three of the Eagles' five second-half
triples.
After Hood endured a shooting drought of 6:16 without a field
goal, Philadelphia Biblical drew to within seven on a pair of free
throws by Lindsey Fornwalt with 6:31 left in regulation. But from
there, the Eagles connected on just one more field goal the rest of
the stanza and the Blazers went on to clinch the 13-point victory.
Jen Willison and Allyson Lethbridge scored 16 points apiece to
pace the Blazer attack. Hood also hauled in a season-best 53
rebounds, as five Blazers matched or tied their seasonal highs on
the boards. Lethbridge and Stacey Jones registered eight apiece
while Bethany McCallum grabbed a game-high 12. Jessica Talley
ripped down eight boards and Kameran Evans finished with five.
Talley also set a seasonal high with five steals.
Norton led all scorers with 17 points, including 14 in the
second half.
Hood outrebounded the Eagles 53-38, including 24-10 on the
offensive glass.
The Blazers next travel to Capital Athletic Conference opponent
Stevenson University Dec. 19 for a 5 p.m. contest.
