FREDERICK, Md.--All 12 players for the visiting University of
Mary Washington Eagles (5-1, 2-0 CAC) got into the scoring column
in a 67-30 Capital Athletic Conference victory over the Hood
College women's basketball team (1-4, 0-2 CAC) Friday evening at
the Odom Fitness Center at Ft. Detrick.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 19-4 lead midway through the
first half led by great defense to stop the Blazer attack. Trailing
19-8 after an Allyson Lethbridge three-pointer, the Blazers endured
a span of nearly four minutes without a field goal. Kameran Evans
hit from deep to snap the drought at the 4:14 mark. However, the
Eagles' powerful offensive attack was too much as Mary Washington
finished the half on a 7-2 run and took a 38-17 lead into the
locker room.
The Eagles continued their dominance in the second half pushing
their lead to 59-22 with an impressive 21-4 run. UMW blocked eight
Hood shots and forced 27 miscues to quell the Blazers' offensive
prowess.
Mary Washington dominated in the paint, outscoring Hood 20-0 in
the second half alone and shot an outstanding 42.1 percent from the
field (24-of-57) compared to Hood's 14 percent (7-of-50) for
the game.
Senior Jen Willison moved into sixth place on Hood's all-time
rebounding list with 690, overtaking Rita Willis '06 on the career
chart. Additionally, junior Allyson Lethbridge climbed into 10th
place all-time in scoring, now with 633 career points. She passes
former teammate Sara Wastler '09, who accumulated 622 points in the
blue and grey.
Lethbridge paced the Blazers with a game-high 14 points,
including 8-of-10 from the line, to go along with four steals and
seven rebounds, both season-highs.
The sophomore guard tandem of Rachel Martin and Katie Wimmer
dropped in 12 points apiece for the victors.
Hood next travels to Goucher College Wednesday for a
nonconference game at 7 p.m.
