FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team won its
third straight match and evened its record at 6-6 on the season
with an 8-1 nonconference win over McDaniel College Monday
afternoon at the Baker Park Tennis Courts.
The Blazers earned straight set victories in five of the six
singles matches and swept all three doubles matches en route to the
win.
Jillian Elkaim ousted Brittany Starlings, 6-0, 6-0, at first
singles to improve to 9-2 on the season. Christine Ocampos-Barry
upped her singles record to 4-7 with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Emily
Taylor. Larisa Buriak also registered her fourth singles win of the
year by upending Jamie Latham, 6-1, 6-1. Laura Saad evened her
record at fifth singles at 2-2 on the season by downing Devan
Hamrit, 6-4, 6-1 and Dani Hunt improved to 5-2 at sixth singles
with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Caitlin Daniels.
Caitlin Erickson and Emily Schrodel teamed up to win their
second doubles match of the season at the No. 3 spot, defeating
Hamrit and Jessica Gelber, 8-6. Elkaim and Buriak topped Taylor and
Starlings, 8-6, at first doubles and Hunt and Ocampos-Barry knocked
off Latham and Kristina Shavirov, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.
Hood's next match is slated for Thursday against Capital
Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's College (Md.) at 3:30 p.m.
at the Baker Park Tennis Courts.
