FREDERICK, Md.--Ten different players contributed to the scoring
as the Hood College women's soccer team (2-1, 1-1 CAC) routed the
visiting Gallaudet University Bison (0-2, 0-1 CAC), 10-0, Sunday
afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Thomas Athletic
Field.
Hood has now won six straight over Gallaudet and has not allowed
a Bison goal since joining the CAC in 2006.
Sophomore Carlie Colella paced the offense with six points on
two goals and two assists. Junior Cara Jordan also registered a
pair of goals which gives her 22 for her career, just one away from
tying former Blazer Jamie Summers for second place all-time.
Abby Dyjack and Jamie Bingaman each contributed a goal and an
assist while Jessica Devine notched her second tally of the season
and Nikki Antalffy notched her eighth career assist.
Several Blazers recorded their first collegiate goals as Jen
Civick, Amanda Hutzell and Becky Leathers all found the back of the
net for the first time in the blue and gray. Stephanie Taylor
assisted on Dyjack's score in the first half for her first
collegiate point and Civick also collected an assist on Hutzell's
goal in the final minute of the first half.
Hood held a sizeable advantage in shot attempts (37-2) and did
not allow a Gallaudet shot on net. Kirsten Cacciola earned the
start and picked up the victory while Rachelle Buhrman patrolled
the net for the second half but was not challenged by the Bison.
Gallaudet's Kara Gulvas made 14 saves in the first 45 minutes
while Casey McCullough turned away five shots in the second half.
Hood returns to action Wednesday in a rematch of last year's CAC
tournament semifinal contest. The Blazers travel to defending
league champion St. Mary's College (Md.) for a 4 p.m. match.
