ARLINGTON, Va.--Despite a game-high 16 points by senior Jen
Willison, the Hood College women's basketball team (3-11, 0-7 CAC)
fell 70-44 to the No. 5 Marymount University Saints (16-1, 7-1 CAC)
in a Capital Athletic Conference game Monday afternoon.
After suffering their first setback of the season, ending a
string of 15 straight wins, the Saints led wire-to-wire in this
tilt and picked up their seventh straight decision over Hood since
2004.
The Blazers cut the Saint advantage to three (20-17) on a layup
by Willison with 5:38 left in the opening stanza. But the hosts
closed the half with a 13-2 burst and led 33-19 at halftime.
Hood doubled up the Saints to start the second half to close the
gap to 41-35 at the 11:36 mark. But MU countered with a 12-1 run
over the next 3:05 to assume a 53-36 lead and the Blazers were
unable to recover.
Willison connected on 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from the
foul line in addition to hauling in seven rebounds. Allyson
Lethbridge finished with nine points while Dyanna Prater tallied
seven and Stacey Jones contributed six, which matches her
season-high.
Kathleen Brown paced the Saints with 16 points and was one of 11
Marymount players to contribute to the scoring. The Saints also won
the battle of the boards, 43-31, including 19-6 on the offensive
glass.
Hood returns home to the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick
Wednesday to host CAC foe St. Mary's College (Md.) at 6 p.m.
