FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team (3-12,
0-8 CAC) dropped a 66-38 Capital Athletic Conference decision to
the visiting St. Mary's College Seahawks (5-11, 4-4 CAC) Wednesday
evening at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick.
The Seahawks put together a 10-0 run over a span of 4:03 in the
first half to assume a 13-4 lead at the 10:58 mark. The spurt was
capped by a pair of free throws by Pui Sham. But the Blazers
managed to trim the deficit to three after Kameran Evans drained a
three and connected on 1-of-2 from the line to make it 15-12 SMCM
with 8:11 to play in the period.
But the Seahawks closed the half with a 15-0 run over the final
5:29 and held a 33-16 lead at the break.
The Blazers were unable to recover in the second half as the
Seahawk advantage ballooned to as many as 33.
Allyson Lethbridge and Dyanna Prater tallied eight points apiece
to pace Hood. Lethbridge also moved into ninth place all-time in
steals, now with 116 for her Blazer career. Jen Willison
contributed seven points and a game-high 16 rebounds, as the
Blazers outrebounded St. Mary's, 43-38. But the Seahawks forced 32
Blazer miscues and picked off 20 steals en route to the win.
Four Seahawks reached double figures, led by Jamie Roberts' 18.
Hood returns to the Odom Fitness Center Saturday when the
Blazers host CAC foe Stevenson University at 4 p.m.
