YORK, Pa.--Senior Jen Willison notched her 28th career
double-double with season-highs of 25 points and 17 rebounds for
the Hood College women's basketball team (4-14, 1-10 CAC) in an
84-72 Capital Athletic Conference loss to the York College (Pa.)
Spartans (8-11, 4-6 CAC) Saturday afternoon.
Hood netted a season-high 72 points and six Blazers recorded
seasonal bests in various categories on the day.
Although the Blazers never led in the first half, Hood hung with
the Spartans in the opening period on the strength of an impressive
51.7 percent shooting performance (15-of-29). After trailing by 12
with 7:36 to go, Hood swished nine of its final 12 attempts from
the field to make it a four-point game (41-37) at intermission.
A conventional three-point play by Willison gave Hood its first
lead of the contest 4:08 into the second half. But the lead would
be short-lived after York's Khadija Mitchell buried a three-pointer
on the Spartans' next possession.
York's advantage swelled to as many as 13 with 5:03 to go in
regulation and the Blazers got no closer than six the rest of the
way.
Willison's double-double was her second of the season and 28th
of her career in the blue and gray. She surpassed her previous
season-high of 20 points, set the last time the Blazers faced the
Spartans at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick on Jan. 9. Her
17 boards eclipsed her previous best effort this season of 16
against St. Mary's College (Md.) and was two shy of her career-high
of 19 versus Penn State York on Jan. 7, 2008.
Stacey Jones and Emily Maerz both set season-highs in scoring.
Maerz connected on 3-of-5 from the floor, including a trey, for
eight points while Jones was 3-of-4 from the field for seven
points. In addition, Jessica Talley tied her season-high with six
points.
Dyanna Prater matched her season-high on the boards with eight
and Jessica Parrish dished a season-high four assists.
Hood next travels to Wesley College for a CAC contest Wednesday
at 6 p.m.
