Box Score WINCHESTER, Va.--Sophomores Megan Cahill and Miriah Stone of the
Hood College field hockey team (1-9) scored their first goals of
the season in a 3-2 nonconference defeat in overtime at Shenandoah
University (6-3) Tuesday afternoon.
Cahill got the Blazers on the board just 2:10 into the contest.
The Blazers were awarded their first of four penalty corners, which
was taken by Stone. She launched the ball to the top of the arc to
Colleen McCarrick who found Cahill in front of the cage for the
score.
Hood was quick to find the back of the cage again in the opening
moments of the second half when Rachel Gannon fed Stone to give the
Blazers a 2-0 advantage just 1:19 into the period.
Shenandoah scored a pair of tallies 1:28 apart in the 55th and
56th minutes of the contest, including one on a penalty stroke.
Hood had another penalty corner opportunity with 1:55 left in
regulation but the Blazers were unable to get a shot off, sending
the game into overtime.
Blazer keeper Anne Marie Hantman came up with a clutch save on
Paola Aguilar's attempt in the 73rd minute. But four minutes later,
Sarah DeLuca scored the game-winner off of the Hornets' 14th corner
of the afternoon.
Hantman compiled 12 saves to bring her career total to 240. She
is 20 saves away from tying Ashley Saylor for fourth place on
Hood's all-time saves list.
The Blazers return home Thursday for a nonconference matchup
with the College of Notre Dame (Md.) Gators at 4 p.m.
