Box Score WINCHESTER, Va.--Despite a game-high 15 points from first-year Briana White, the Hood College women's basketball team (4-1) fell to the Shenandoah University Hornets (2-3), 80-51, in nonconference action Sunday evening.
The Hornets outscored the Blazers, 13-3, in the first 4:52 and the Blazers never recovered, suffering their first loss of the 2010-11 season. Shenandoah limited the Blazers to just 6-of-22 from the field in the first 20 minutes and held a commanding 45-19 lead at the break. Hood improved its shooting percentage in the second half, connecting on 10-of-23 from the field, but was unable to overcome the double-figure deficit.
White connected on 4-of-9 from the field and 7-of-9 from the stripe to lead all scorers, while sophomore Dyanna Prater and senior Kameran Evans contributed 10 points apiece. Evans drilled a pair of triples and hauled in a team-best eight rebounds while Prater dished four assists in the losing cause.
SU's Mandy Johnston led the hosts with 15 points, including 3-of-4 from downtown, as the Hornets forced 31 Blazer turnovers and shot 53.1 percent from the floor on the night.
Hood looks to get back on the winning track Wednesday when it travels to Salisbury University for its first Capital Athletic Conference contest of the season. The Blazers and Sea Gulls tip at 6 p.m.
