FREDERICKSBURG, Va.--The Hood College women's basketball team
(4-17, 1-13 CAC) suffered a 71-41 Capital Athletic Conference
defeat at the hands of the No. 24 University of Mary Washington
Eagles (17-3, 12-0 CAC) Friday evening at Goolrick Gym.
Despite attempting just about half as many field goals as the
hosts in the opening stanza, Hood was an efficient 9-of-19 from the
floor and trailed the top team in the CAC by just seven (28-21)
after the first 20 minutes of action.
After Hood started the second half with a bucket by Dyanna
Prater to trim the deficit to just five, the Eagles scored on three
straight possessions to go up 11 (34-23) and Hood got no closer
than nine the rest of the way. Hood connected on just four field
goals in the final 17:47.
Prater finished with a team-high 10 points, including a pair of
three-pointers, to go along with three assists and five rebounds.
Allyson Lethbridge returned to the court for the first time since
Jan. 23 and also buried a pair of triples for eight points. Brianna
Raithel grabbed a team-best six boards while Jessica Talley handed
out three assists for Hood.
Ashley Reed led all scorers with 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
All 12 Eagles to check into the game contributed to the scoring and
UMW outrebounded the Blazers 47-35.
Hood has a quick turnaround as the Blazers travel to St. Mary's
College (Md.) for a 2 p.m. game with the fifth-place Seahawks.
