ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.--The Hood College women's basketball team
(4-18, 1-14 CAC) suffered their six straight defeat to the St.
Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (7-13, 6-6 CAC), 78-55, Saturday
afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action at the ARC Arena.
The Seahawks scored the first five points of the contest and led
wire-to-wire en route to evening their league mark at 6-6. St.
Mary's, which was playing its first game since Jan. 30, jumped to
fourth place in the conference with the win.
St. Mary's built a 41-19 lead after the first 20 minutes on the
strength of 46.7 percent shooting from the field, which included a
6-for-10 effort from long range. The Seahawks also turned 15 Hood
miscues in the opening stanza into 20 points.
Hood nearly matched the Seahawks' offensive output in the second
period, connecting on 15-of-32 from the field.
Jen Willison was a force in the paint in the early going for the
Blazers, scoring on all four of her field goal attempts in the
first 5:13. In doing so, Willison moved into fourth place on the
program's all-time scoring chart, passing Mandy Fischer '04.
Willison now has 1,289 career points in the blue and grey.
Dyanna Prater also had a strong second half for Hood, netting 13
of her game-high 15 points in the frame. She also dished five
assists and picked off a career-high eight steals, one shy of tying
the single-game program record.
Additionally, Kameran Evans came off the bench to tally 10
points, including two triples.
SMCM's Megan Seeman led five Seahawks in double figures with 20
points in a reserve role while Alex Wenger finished with a
double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Blazers' final contest of the season is coming up on
Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Odom Fitness Center at Fort Detrick. The
Blazers host the No. 6 Marymount University Saints in their season
finale. Hood's nonconference contest at Wilson College on Feb. 17
has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict.
