FREDERICK, Md.--Despite a valiant first-half effort and a
game-high 15 points from senior Jen Willison, the Hood College
women's basketball team (4-19, 1-15 CAC) lost to the No. 7
Marymount University Saints (24-1, 15-1 CAC), 78-47, Saturday
afternoon in the Blazers' season finale at the Odom Fitness Center
at Fort Detrick.
After falling behind early, the Blazers made a big run, scoring
12 unanswered points and holding the high-powered Saints scoreless
for 7:35. Marymount came into the contest as the CAC leader in
scoring offense. Willison netted five points in the spurt while
Brianna Raithel drilled a three and Stacey Jones swished a pair of
jumpers. But over the final 9:12, the Saints outscored the Blazers
26-8 and took a 34-22 edge into the break.
Marymount overcame its early shooting woes by taking advantage
of some Blazers miscues. The guests turned 16 first-half turnovers
by the Blazers into 19 points.
Hood was unable to keep pace with the Saints in the second
stanza, as Marymount registered its ninth straight victory.
