FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (1-3)
came up on the short end of a 13-6 nonconference decision to the
Washington & Jefferson College Presidents (2-0) Saturday
afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
Hood drew first blood when Kelsey Blackwell recorded her fifth
score of the season off a pass from Jessie Teague just 1:02 into
the contest. W&J's Brittany Fradkin had a hand in the visitors'
next two scores and she registered an unassisted goal and assisted
on teammate Liz Turcik's tally to give the Presidents a 2-1 edge.
Teague knotted the game at 2-2 with her second goal of the season
at the 23:03 mark. But from there, the Presidents ripped off five
straight goals over a span of nearly 14 minutes to go up 7-2.
Lauren Perzan and Katie Vu each cashed in on free position
opportunities to draw the Blazers to within 7-4 with 2:17 remaining
before halftime, but Fradkin struck again 26 seconds later as
W&J took an 8-4 advantage into the locker room.
The Presidents outscored the Blazers 5-2 in the second half to
secure their second win of the spring.
Perzan scored twice for Hood while Teague, Blackwell, Brandy
Noel and Vu recorded single tallies. Sam Liptrap made 12 saves in
the net as the Blazers were outshot 33-13 on the day.
Courtney Schrock finished with six points on four goals and two
assists to pace W&J.
Hood returns to action Tuesday at Neumann College for a 7 p.m.
nonconference game.
