ASTON, Pa.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (2-3) rallied
from an early four-goal deficit to defeat the Neumann University
Knights (1-2), 14-8, Tuesday evening in a nonconference game.
Neumann posted the first four scores of the contest over the
opening 11:53 before junior Kelsey Blackwell got the Blazers on the
board off a pass from Jessie Teague at the 15:34 mark. Her tally
would ignite a tremendous seven-goal spurt by the Blazers to close
the half.
Hood's defense would keep the Knights off the scoreboard for a
total of 18:48 spanning both halves. After first-year Caitlin
Lawrence notched her second goal of the game 26 seconds into the
second half, Neumann's Tiffany Baker and Alex Bohen ripped
back-to-back goals to draw the hosts to within 8-6.
But the Blazers countered by reeling off six unanswered scores,
including two apiece by Lawrence and Brandy Noel. The Knights
scored the games final two goals but it was not enough as the
Blazers snapped a mini two-game slide.
Lawrence finished with five points on four goals and an assist
while Blackwell also netted four goals. Noel recorded a hat trick
and assisted on a fourth tally while Teague, Katie Vu and Julia
Banks added single scores.
Sam Liptrap turned aside 15 Neumann shot attempts to earn the
victory while defender Jennifer Fischer scooped up a team-best nine
ground balls on the day.
Hood returns to Capital Athletic Conference play Thursday
hosting No. 17 University of Mary Washington at 4 p.m. The Eagles
(3-1, 1-0 CAC) were 16-12 winners over St. Mary's College (Md.)
earlier today.
