Hood Women Jump to Fourth in CAC With 8-1 Win Over Stevenson

FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (4-9, 2-3 CAC) won its third straight match and fourth in its last five outings, 8-1, over Stevenson University (2-5, 0-4 CAC) Saturday morning on Senior Day at Baker Park.

The Blazers are now in fourth place in the CAC standings.

Hood started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches. Jillian Elkaim and Emily Schrodel downed Julie Strong and Stephanie Eyler at first doubles, 8-6, for their team-leading six doubles win. Dani Hunt and Emily Maerz made quick work of Wendy Ogbolu and Michelle Huber, 8-0, to improve to 3-2 against CAC foes in doubles play. Kameran Evans and Casey Miller won their first doubles match together, 8-4, over Sam Baugher and Ashleigh Smith.

Elkaim, Maerz, Schrodel, Miller and Evans were all straight set winners in singles action. Schrodel's triumph at No. 4 was her first of the season, while Maerz and Elkaim won their third straight singles matches.

Hood will resume its CAC match with Wesley College Sunday afternoon at noon at Baker Park. The Blazers hold a 4-1 advantage over the Wolverines in a match that was started on Thursday. If the Blazers hang on to defeat Wesley Sunday, they will lock up fourth place in the conference and host a first round playoff match Saturday, April 17, against the No. 5 seed.
