FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (4-9, 2-3
CAC) won its third straight match and fourth in its last five
outings, 8-1, over Stevenson University (2-5, 0-4 CAC) Saturday
morning on Senior Day at Baker Park.
The Blazers are now in fourth place in the CAC standings.
Hood started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches.
Jillian Elkaim and Emily Schrodel downed Julie Strong and Stephanie
Eyler at first doubles, 8-6, for their team-leading six doubles
win. Dani Hunt and Emily Maerz made quick work of Wendy Ogbolu and
Michelle Huber, 8-0, to improve to 3-2 against CAC foes in doubles
play. Kameran Evans and Casey Miller won their first doubles match
together, 8-4, over Sam Baugher and Ashleigh Smith.
Elkaim, Maerz, Schrodel, Miller and Evans were all straight set
winners in singles action. Schrodel's triumph at No. 4 was her
first of the season, while Maerz and Elkaim won their third
straight singles matches.
Hood will resume its CAC match with Wesley College Sunday
afternoon at noon at Baker Park. The Blazers hold a 4-1 advantage
over the Wolverines in a match that was started on Thursday. If the
Blazers hang on to defeat Wesley Sunday, they will lock up fourth
place in the conference and host a first round playoff match
Saturday, April 17, against the No. 5 seed.
