OWINGS MILLS, Md.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (4-10,
0-7 CAC) dropped a 17-6 Capital Athletic Conference decision to the
No. 17 Stevenson University Mustangs (9-5, 4-3 CAC) Monday
afternoon in its conference finale.
The Mustangs posted the game's first seven scores before Katie Vu got the Blazers on the board with her 14th goal of the spring.
Caitlin Lawrence found the back of the net with just 1:08 remaining
in the opening half as the Blazers trailed 9-2 at intermission.
Vu struck again midway through the second stanza on a free
position shot. Then with just under nine minutes to go, Julia Banks
and Lauren Perzan netted back-to-back scores in a span of 37
seconds to cut the deficit to 12-5. Vu fed Kelsey Blackwell for her
team-leading 27th tally of the season at the 3:49 mark, but the
hosts tacked on four goals in the final 1:43 to clinch the win.
Sam Liptrap stopped 12 Mustang shots on the day as the Blazers
were outshot 38-12. Hood won 11 of the 24 draws, including three
apiece by Banks and Jennifer Fischer.
Megan Weiss finished with seven points on four goals and three
assists to pace Stevenson.
Hood's final game of 2010 is slated for Thursday against the
College of Notre Dame (Md.) at Thomas Athletic Field. The Blazers
will honor seniors Jessie Teague, Brandy Noel and Perzan before the
contest, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
