Box Score FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's soccer team (3-12, 2-5 CAC) scored with 50 seconds remaining Saturday afternoon to stun the Wesley Wolverines (6-9, 1-6 CAC) and the crowd with a dramatic 2-1 victory on senior day. The victory kept Hood's Capital Athletic Conference playoff hopes alive and all but ended Wesley's chances.
Wesley got on the board first with a goal by Stevi Carpenter in the 23rd minute of play. It was her first goal of the season and seemed to be a comfortable spot for the Wolverines.
Hood sophomore
Brittni Souder turned the tide of the game in the 62nd minute. Souder hit a strong shot from 18 yards out that went past Frostburg goalkeeper Sydney Kahan to tie the game 1-1. Hood completed its comeback with a goal in the last minute of play by junior midfielder
Kristen Byers.
Stevey Markovich's initial shot hit the post and Byers followed the shot up and scored to send the crowd into a frenzy. The goal by Byers gave Hood its second victory over a CAC opponent this season and certainly one of Hood's biggest victories of the season. With a big crowd to support the seniors on senior day Hood certainly delivered.
Hood goalkeeper
Kirsten Cacciola, who was honored on senior day the same week she was given CAC women's soccer defensive player of the week, made six saves on the day to keep Hood alive when they were fighting back for the lead. Wesley goalkeeper Sydney Kahan made five saves on the afternoon.
The Blazers hit the road their last three contests starting Monday at 4 p.m. against Trinity followed by a monster CAC matchup against Mary Washington on Wednesday at the same time.
