Hood Drops Conference Battle to Frostburg 74-70

Box Score

FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College men's basketball team (4-3, 1-2 CAC) dropped its second consecutive conference matchup losing 74-70 to the Frostburg State Bobcats (3-4, 2-1 CAC).

Sophomore guard Cameron Cook led all scorers with 17 points but he was the only Blazer starter to score in double figures. Senior guard Ramon Smith came off the bench and came up one rebound short of a double-double contributing 15 points and nine rebounds in 20 minutes of work. The Bobcats used a very balanced scoring attack as they had nine players score five points or more. Junior guard DeSean Antoine paced the Bobcats with 16 points off the bench.

Hood dug itself into an early hole falling behind 12-3 in the first four minutes and change of the first half. Coach Tom Dickman used a timeout to halt the run but Frostburg continued to push ahead its lead to as many as 20 with only five minutes remaining in the half. Hood slimmed the lead down to nine at the half as Smith made a layup with ten seconds left before halftime.

The Blazers went down by double-digits for the beginning of the second half but a strong push got them to within four points at 58-54 off a Justin Bowens layup. But every time Hood got close Frostburg would make a big bucket and bring its lead back to seven or eight points. Bowens hit a jump shot with 24 seconds remaining to trim the lead to three at 73-70. Frostburg's Bradley Nunn made one of his ensuing free throw attempts icing the game for Frostburg. Frostburg made seven threes to Hood's two but Hood walked away with a substantial rebound margin of plus-12 with a 48-36 advantage. The Blazers struggled from the foul line, connecting on just 26-of-43 from the stripe.

Hood will welcome its return home to BB&T Arena this Saturday as they will play host to St. Mary's College of Md. (6-2, 2-0 CAC) in a pivotal conference matchup for both teams. Hood is undefeated in its first two home games of the season and will look to get back to its winning ways at 4 p.m.
