FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Emily Maerz of the Hood College women's tennis team (0-1) earned wins at first doubles and first singles in a 7-2 loss to Catholic University (2-1) Friday afternoon at Baker Park.
Maerz and doubles partner Emily Schrodel bested Andrea Ingram and Emma Needham, 8-4, at the No. 1 spot. Maerz then made quick work of Ingram at first singles, winning her pro set by a count of 10-0.
The Cardinals captured the other five singles matches in straight sets and surrendered only three games combined at second and third doubles.
The Blazers next travel to Shepherd University on Sept. 27 for a 4 p.m. nonconference match.
