FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (1-2) picked up its first victory of the fall Friday afternoon after defeating Notre Dame (Md.) University, 8-1, at Frederick High School.
The Blazers downed the Gators in five of six singles matches and swept all three doubles contests to earn the win.
Emily Maerz, Emily Schrodel, Laura Saad, Sandra Dziadas and Nalla Tejera all won at singles and doubles on the day. Maerz and Schrodel topped Kelcy Bye and Amanda Fansler, 8-2, at first doubles, while Saad and Kirsten Friend bested Anna Schmedding and Megan Kemp, 8-4, at second singles. Dziadas and Tejera ousted Alex Osario and Megan Satchell, 8-2, at the No. 3 spot to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles action, Maerz cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 win over Bye at No. 1; Schrodel held off Fanster, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2; Saad had little trouble with Osario at No. 4, winning 6-0, 6-0; Dziadas toppled Kemp, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 5; and Tejera won her first singles match in the blue-and-grey, defeating Satchell, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6.
The Blazers next travel to McDaniel College on Oct. 7 for a 3:30 p.m. nonconference match.
