WINCHESTER, Va.--The Hood College women's tennis team (2-3) dropped a narrow 5-4 decision to the Shenandoah University Hornets (2-0) Saturday in the squad's first spring match at Winchester Country Club.
Emily Maerz, Sandra Dziadas and Mabie Tun were all winners in their respective singles matches. Maerz topped Carla Wong at first singles, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; Dzaidas rallied for a three-set win over Kelsey Brewster at No. 4, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5; and Tun defeated Ilana Rozin in straight sets at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4.
Maerz and first doubles partner Casey Miller outlasted Wong and Shannon Allin, 9-7, for Hood's lone doubles win of the evening.
The Blazers will be idle until March 3 when Hood travels to Salisbury University for a 3 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference match.
