FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's lacrosse team (2-3) came up on the short end of an 18-5 decision to the visiting Washington & Jefferson College Presidents (1-0) Saturday afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.

Caitlin Lawrence scored a pair of goals, her team-leading 13th and 14th of the season, while Julia Banks, Kati Vu and Jennifer Fischer added single tallies. Helene Butler turned away a season-high 12 attempts in the net while Vu won four draws, Maria Moss scooped four ground balls and Fischer and Kimi Brunot had three each.

The Presidents netted nine of the game's first 10 goals and led 10-2 at halftime.

Lawrence, Fischer and Banks all converted free position shot attempts for three of Hood's five scores on the day.

Brittany Fradkin found the back of the net five times for W&J and Brittney Oake scored four times to lead the Presidents.

The Blazers travel to Frostburg State University Tuesday for a 3 p.m. Capital Athletic Conference matchup.
