FREDERICK, Md.--Junior Emily Maerz of the Hood College women's tennis team (4-9, 0-3 CAC) won her singles and doubles matches in a 6-3 Capital Athletic Conference setback to the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks (8-3, 1-0 CAC) Saturday at Baker Park.
Maerz made quick work of Alexa Gaul at first singles, winning 6-0, 6-0, to improve to 6-6 on the season. Maerz and doubles partner Emily Schrodel outlasted Gaul and Chelsea Bradcovich, 8-5, for their first CAC doubles win of the year at No. 1.
Casey Miller and Kirsten Friend got past Alyssa Stine and Lauren Rost, 8-2, for Hood's third point of the match. The Blazers' second doubles duo is 2-2 on the season.
Hood's next match is scheduled for April 10 against CAC opponent Wesley College.
