STEVENSON, Md.--Emily Maerz and Emily Schrodel of the Hood College women's tennis team (5-10, 1-4 CAC) were winners at singles and doubles Thursday but the Blazers came up just short against Capital Athletic Conference rival Stevenson University (5-6, 2-4 CAC), falling 5-4 at the Greenspring Tennis Courts.
Maerz improved her singles mark against league opponents to 3-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over No. 1 Susannah Hoblitzell. Hood's No. 3 Schrodel downed Jordan Rupard, 6-3, 6-0, for her fourth singles win of the season. Kirsten Friend won her fourth singles match of the year and second at the No. 5 spot over Michelle Huber, 6-0, 6-3.
Maerz and Schrodel topped Hoblitzell and Stephanie Eyler at first doubles, 8-5, to up their mark to 8-6 on the year.
The Blazers next travel to Trinity University (D.C.) Friday for a 3:30 p.m. nonconference contest.
