FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (7-10, 2-4 CAC) won its second match in a row and second against a Capital Athletic Conference opponent Saturday, defeating the York College (Pa.) Spartans (5-10, 2-4 CAC) Saturday.

Hood kept its CAC playoff hopes alive with the victory and made it a special senior day for graduating seniors Emily Schrodel and Casey Miller, both four-year competitors in the blue-and-grey.

Emily Maerz, Kirsten Friend, Schrodel and Miller were all winners at the top four singles positions, while the Blazers also swept all three doubles matches from the Spartans.

Maerz cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Katelyn Aker at No. 1 and Schrodel downed Samantha Brenner at No. 3 in straight sets as well at No. 3. Friend and Miller both battled their opponents in a decisive third set and emerged victorious.

Maerz and Schrodel teamed up to topple Acker and Brenner at first doubles, 8-2, while Mabie Tun and Friend upended Megan McCullin and Emily Price at No. 2, 8-5. Miller and Sandra Dziadas downed Nicole Olsen and Arcondia Vlahos at third doubles, 8-4, to complete the sweep.

The Blazers have one match remaining on their regular season slate. Hood will host the Frostburg State Bobcats in a CAC match Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Baker Park.
