FREDERICK, Md.--The Hood College women's tennis team (1-2) secured their first victory for new head coach Tim Halter Sunday against McDaniel College, 6-1, in the second of two matches at the Hood Tennis Complex.
The Blazers won four singles matches and two doubles matches en route to the triumph. Emily Maerz sailed to an 8-0 victory over Kiersten Patron at No. 1, while Olivia Hosch ousted Laura Pollard, 8-2, for her first collegiate singles win at No. 2. Additionally, Sandra Dziadas and Aubrey Fetters defeated their opponents at third and sixth singles, respectively. The No. 4 and 5 singles matches were unable to be completed.
In doubles play, Maerz and Hosch blanked Patron and Chelsea Barnett, 8-0, at No. 1 and Dziadas and Fetters teamed up to down Elise O'Meara and Pollard at No. 2, 8-3.
The Blazers fell 8-1 in the first match of the day against Division II Chowan University, as Maerz and Hosch toppled Nata Kamenshcikova and Jennifer Humphrey, 8-4, for Hood's lone point in the match.
Hood's next match is slated for Thursday, Sept. 27 against Shepherd University at 4:30 p.m. at the Hood Tennis Complex.
