Box Score FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's soccer team (2-6) lost to former Capital Athletic Conference foe Marymount UNiversity (5-3) 1-0 in the final minutes Tuesday afternoon. The Blazers fought very hard all game and deserved better than the 1-0 outcome.
The only goal of the contest was scored late in the 85th minute when Marymount's Julie Fioramonti scored off a long range effort that Hood goalkeeper Leah Norris was unable to turn away. Norris may have been shielded on the play as there were many bodies that she had to contend with, however the pace of the shot made it very difficult to stop.
Just two minutes after the goal Hood sophomore Dorothy Hearn almost had the Blazers level. Hearn received a ball on the flank from senior Aimee Smith and shot to the back post only to see her low shot hit the woodwork. That was really the best chance Hood had to equalize as the Saints possessed the ball the last three minutes to preserve the one-goal win. The loss was a tough one to swallow for the Blazers as a few breaks here and there and they could have easily left with the 1-0 victory.
Norris played a very good game in net for the Blazers as she made five saves on the afternoon. One of Norris' saves came off a long Marymount free kick that she punched over the net that preserved the tie game. Marymount went with two goalkeepers as Victoria Wyand played the first half and Holly Wenger played the second half. The two of them combined for one save and the clean sheet.
The Blazers only had five shots on the afternoon to Marymount's 15 and the Saints also held a corner kick advantage of 2-1.
Hood returns to action this Saturday when they play Widener University at noon. The game will be the first match in the new MAC Conference for the Blazers.
