FREDERICK, Md. - The Hood College women's basketball team dropped its Commonwealth Conference opener to the Stevenson Mustangs 61-35.

Stevenson's Kyarra Harmon led all scorers with 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Brittney George (Middletown, Md. / Middletown) led the Blazers with 12 points. 

After George started off the scoring with a lay-up, the Mustangs jumped out with an 11-0 run with 9:55 remaining in the half.

Rachel Wiley had nine of her game-high 10 rebounds in the first half and Jessy Burke (Monrovia, Md. / Linganore) led Hood with four points. 

Stevenson went into the locker room with a 27-8 lead, with Harmon and Kayleigh Guzak both scoring six points.

The Blazers scored 15 points in the last five minutes with George chipping in her final five points. Burke and Allie Appleby (Bel Air, Md. / C. Milton Wright) scored six and five respectively. 

Hood returns to action against the Lycoming College Warriors at BB&T Arena on December 7 at 1 p.m.
